Return to Campus: Operations

Mason plans a six-stage approach to resume operations, instruction and research.

Because of the physical distancing requirements needed to prevent transmission of COVID-19, employees who can do their jobs remotely should continue to telework until we reach Stage 6.

Each unit/department will be required to submit a Unit/Department Safety Plan that outlines how they intend to comply with the Safe Return to Campus Plan’s public health and safety precaution.

Stage 1: March 15 – June 10

Only essential work, research and instructional activities are allowed in accordance with the Governor’s Safer at Home order.

Employees who can work remotely telework.

Stage 2: June 11 - 30

Mason assess and coordinates plans to prepare campus for the return of students, faculty and staff.

Employees who can work remotely will continue to telework.

Stage 3: July 1 - 31

Mason modifies workspaces, common areas and classrooms to promote physical distancing and implement safety precautions.

Employees who can work remotely will continue to telework.

Stage 4: August 1 - 23

Faculty, staff and student workers required to be on campus to support operations, instruction, research and campus activities return.

Employees who can work remotely will continue to telework.

Stage 5: August 24 - December 19

Mason welcomes students returning online or in-person. We will adjust plans and procedures as necessary if conditions on-campus or in our region change.

Stage 6: To Be Determined

Normal operations resume. This will be decided as circumstances and events warrant.
